And the winner is…….. You

Addy night always kinda confuses me, and heres why-the categories dont always have winners as one would expect. Take a standard horse race, or swim meet, each category will have a first, second and third place winner, with occasional ties. But addy judging is different. Addy categories MAY do that kinda standard distribution, but more likely have several winners, some as multiple gold or silver (or bronze?) Our none. But I can get over that pretty easily, because of my absolute favorite phenomia, the uber cool special judges award. it’s given, and heres the kicker, without regard to category. It’s given for something so awesome it defies mere category. Dunno exactly how often it is given, or how it plays out in the higher levels of competition. Addy awards go from local to district to region to national levels,i think, so the special judges award may be a very mixed bag of eclectic tastes by the time it gets to national level. Hells bells, I’ve never looked to see if that even exists at nationals. But I bet if it does it would be most interesting. Praps THE most interesting category. Heres why-all the other categories are tried and true. Sure, we add and adjust the categories constantly as technologies change. But judges special award CAN go to blue water categories. Things that don’t even have a name. Yet. Of course I’m thinking about one in particular, and it was a turning point for our practice. Several years ago, praps five or six, one of my ab fave clients won it for something that EVERYONE does today, but NO ONE did back then. No. One. Brains on fire did. They saw the future, embraced it, rode out, and completely owned the space as thought leaders. As thought provokers.

Nobody blogged. It was UNHEARD of. And the brains on fire blog was my fave read of the day. Every. Day. Its interesting to see how even today, with so many best case examples of ‘how to blog well’ how few actually do. How many are dormant, or worse, like mine, are completely random & vapid. Even now, many years later, their awesome (and updated damn near daily btw) blog would still win a judges special award. Imho. They inspired me to start blogging, not because I wanted to win anything, but because I wanted to connect with our tribe.

Yeah, I’ve been slugging it out for five or six years. With varying degrees of activity and success. But every time I see their blog, which is just about daily, I’m reinspired. Rejuvenated.

To try to connect better. Like that special judges award confirmed about brains on fire. That what they were doing, without regard to category, mattered. You prolly wanna suck less in your practice, wanna go do work that matters, connect with your fans. And the judges recognized years ago one exceptionally great way to do it. The blogging channel may very well be a exceptionaly elegant way to do that. If thats worth your time. If not,i hope you find a channel that works for you. Without regard to category. Creation for creations sake, just because you can. Go connect. Suck less. Your practice deserves the best you that you can be. Whatever that is.
